Truagh Development Association’s Community Services Programme Produces In Excess of 1,300 Meals Per Week
Fiona McCaffrey Jones, Manager of the Truagh based Community Services Programme explained, “Monaghan people, young and old, appreciate tasty, nutritious, locally sourced food and the proof is in the huge growth in the numbers of people availing of our community food services every week”.
“Between the hot school lunches, meals on wheels, child and day care centres we have exceeded an extraordinary milestone, producing in excess of 1,300 meals per week”.
“TDA’s Community Services Programme proved invaluable during the Covid-19 Pandemic and now during the cost-of-living crisis, the pressure is on us to meet the growing demand for hot, freshly prepared meals”, Fiona explained. “This winter is going to be tough on everyone and our capacity to produce meals is only limited by the size of our catering facilities. Thanks to the invaluable support of the Dept of Rural and Community Development and the Dormant Accounts Fund we secured funding for 2 delivery vans which enabled us to double the number of schools and care centres we cater for and to deliver our freshly prepared meals in Truagh, Monaghan town, Clontibret, Ardaghey, Glaslough, Tydavnet, Ballinode and everywhere in between”.
“Our meals on wheels service does not operate a list system and is not means tested. That means that if you are in our catchment area our friendly drivers will deliver hot meals to you, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, as required. We are proud of our work in the community and our capacity to serve such a large area while still keeping people at the heart of everything we do”.
