Who We Are

Truagh Development Association CLG was incorporated in 1991.  The principal objects for which the company was established are: to promote the economic, environmental and cultural development of Errigal Truagh parish and the surrounding area by establishing and organising community development programmes which will act as a focus and catalyst for community development, for the benefit of the local community and its environs, with a view to promoting their educational, cultural and economic welfare and to empower specific disadvantaged and marginalised groups to effectively participate in a programme of personal and community development.  The organisation is registered with the Companies Registration Office.  It is run by a Board Of Trustees/Directors.  The Board meets monthly.  The company is registered with the Charities Regulator and its constitution can be viewed on the Charities Regulator website.

Truagh Spirit became the brand name of Truagh Development Association CLS in October 2022, thanks to ARISE funding from DAF.  The Truagh Spirit Social Enterprise is under the umbrella of Truagh Development Association CLG.  The social enterprise is managed by a full-time general manager.  The GM leads a team of 13 employees delivering the Community Services Programme supported by Pobal and delivering a wide range of services to the community of Truagh and the wider north Monaghan area (population 22,000).

  • Establishment of North Monaghan Social Groups Network in 2019 – network of HSE Section 39 funded groups in the north Monaghan area
  • Volunteer Ireland’s Volunteer Manager of 2020 National Award for work to address rural social isolation during the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Covid 19 Pandemic – TDA’s response to the unprecedented needs in Monaghan Municipal District area was twofold.  It established the Meals on Wheels service and opened the Truagh Digital Micro Hub in January 2021.
  • Bike The Blackwater Cycle Sportif in collaboration with PRONI, Armagh City Cyclists, Portadown Cycling Club, Emyvale and Killyough Cycling Clubs, September 2021
  • In partnership with Monaghan County Council (lead partner) €3.3m was awarded from the RRDF for the development of a Rural Enterprise Centre and Digital Hub at Knockconan, Emyvale
  • 2024: established the Wise & Well Social Club for older people
  • Nominated for the prestigious EU CAP Network, Agriculture & Rural Inspiration Award 2024 for outstanding contributions to rural development.
  • National recognition as the Digital Town Award Rising Star overall winner in 2024 for innovative digital initiatives for older people
